Goals of the Program

  • Eliminate habits

  • Find resting tongue position

  • Achieve adequate lip seal at rest

  • Find typical pattern of swallowing

  • Have bilateral chewing

  • Correct drinking habits

  • Encourage nasal breathing

  • Establish good head and neck posture

Our Program is appropriate for children, teens and adults. Program goals are individualized and are meant to create new healthy oral habits. The benefit of healthy habits can include nasal breathing, a proper swallow pattern, favorable resting tongue position and preserving orthodontic results from this program. Positive Impact: With Myofunctional Therapy, a patient can regain the joy of eating, speaking, breathing, and even sleeping more soundly. Cosmetic improvements can help restore confidence and self-esteem. We believe that everyone deserves to be educated about myofuncitonal disorders and treated if they suffer from OMDs. We endeavor to increase awareness of Myofunctional Therapy amongst the medical, dental, and academic communities to support the acceptance and progress of this profession world-wide.

Assessment

During your myofunctional assessment, you can expect a thorough evaluation that involves both a detailed medical history and a comprehensive orofacial examination. We will review your eating, breathing, and sleeping habits, as well as any related symptoms or concerns. The assessment will include an examination of your oral and facial muscles, the range of motion of your jaw, and your swallowing patterns. We may also take photos or videos to document your posture and oral function. This initial assessment helps me to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to address the root causes of your symptoms for optimal health and well-being.

Program Structure & Sessions

After your assessment, I will develop a customized OMT program based on your unique symptoms, orofacial structure, and goals.  This program will include recurring Therapist-led Sessions and a Daily At-home Program for you to complete. The length of the program, frequency of sessions, and at-home program will vary based on your progress.

At Lips Sealed, you can be confident that you are receiving a fully customized program tailored to your specific needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Length of Program

Your unique symptoms, root cause, and commitment to Weekly Sessions and At-home Therapy will directly impact the length of your therapy program. As with other disorders, it all depends on the type of problem we are treating, the severity of the problem, and patient compliance with recommended treatment. The average time is 4-6 months, but some people may need therapy for around 12 months. Your estimated therapy length will be discussed with you at your initial evaluation.

Therapist-led Sessions

Therapist-led Sessions can be held virtually through our confidential patient portal. During these sessions, I will assess your progress in oral function since our last session, discuss any new challenges or discoveries, and provide you with training and a customized plan for your next stage of the Daily At-home Program. Therapist-led Sessions are typically weekly, but depending on your symptoms and progress, we may choose to meet every other week at some stages.

Daily At-home Program

Each day, you will complete a series of targeted, high-impact therapies to improve your orofacial function and address the root causes of your symptoms. Consistency and commitment to these daily therapies is critical to your success as these repeat experiences are what allows your brain to form the new neural connections that retain and correct your oral posture and function.

Insurance & Payment

To ensure the highest quality care and a full range of treatment options, I do not partner with insurance companies as an in-network provider. This means you'll pay out-of-pocket for each session, allowing me to fully focus on providing individualized care tailored to your unique needs.
